



Dr Amanda Farrell
Research Lead
Dr Amanda Farrell is a Senior Lecturer of Policing and the Programme Leader for the undergraduate Forensics, Policing and Investigations programme at Liverpool John Moores University.
Dr Farrell grew up in a first responder family and spent six years working crime scenes in southeastern Virginia, USA, so appreciates the impact of extreme weather on emergency responders and service provision to communities. She has also assisted with instruction at both the police academy and in-service training for Norfolk (VA) Police Department and has been a guest lecturer on practitioner partnerships to research stress and trauma at the FBI's National Academy. She was an ORISE research fellow for the FBI assigned to the Behavioral Analysis Units (BAUs) under the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) at the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC), where she worked on projects related to abducted and murdered children, violent crimes against adults, and mass shooting/mass casualty incidents.
Dr Farrell has also delivered training on resilience and mental health in first responder professions to a variety of academic and practitioner audiences. She joined the Winter Storm team in February 2024 and enjoys collaborating to develop co-produced knowledge regarding policy, preparation and resilience for extreme weather. Her other research interests include mental health and resilience in criminal justice professionals, policing, criminal investigations and research design
